Global Cricket Performance: Clinical & Technical Case Studies
Cricket Matters is an assessment-led Cricket Injury & Sports Performance Clinic based at Unit A6, Chapel Farm Industrial Estate, Cwmcarn. We bridge clinical remedial therapy with high-velocity cricket performance for athletes ranging from South Wales club players to international squads.
Every case study follows the same performance framework: clinical clarity to establish safe foundations, technical refinement to address cricket-specific demands, and physical preparation to ensure those changes tolerate match load. Each case documents the decision-making process — what limited progress, how it was assessed, and why specific interventions were selected.
How These Results Are Built.
Clinical Foundation (Assessment and Safety):
Led by James Breese (Level 4 Sports & Remedial Therapist, LCSP Associate Member), we start by identifying the mechanical drivers behind pain, breakdown, or performance plateaus — including asymmetry, load intolerance, and inefficient force transfer. If it can’t be assessed clearly, it can’t be progressed safely.
Technical Translation (Cricket Mechanics):
As an ECB coach, James connects clinical findings to the game — fast bowling mechanics, overhead demands, front-foot contact, and rotational torque when batting — so changes are practical, specific, and repeatable.
Performance Capacity (Strength, Conditioning, and Load):
Once the foundation is stable, we build the physical capacity required for cricket: strength, power, speed, and high-velocity workload tolerance. The goal is not a short-term fix, but performance that holds up from the nets to out in the middle, season after season.

The Practitioner Behind the System
Built Around Accountability for Decisions.
Cricket Matters is not a collection of services. It is an assessment-led performance system designed to support better decisions — over seasons, not sessions.
The system is led by James Breese, founder of Cricket Matters, working at the intersection of cricket coaching, physical preparation, and injury rehabilitation. It is delivered through a practitioner team operating under shared clinical and performance standards.
James has coached players, prepared athletes, and treated injuries — and continues to play the game himself.
That perspective matters. The decisions within this system are not theoretical. They are shaped by what repeatedly breaks players down, what keeps them available across a season, and what allows improvements to hold up under match pressure.
Cricket Matters exists to remove guesswork.
James Breese is accountable for the thinking, structure, and standards behind the system.
